Modern history: Safety Valve Theory and British India’s political platform
When the British ruled India, they faced a growing problem: educated Indians were becoming increasingly unhappy with colonial rule. There was anger against British policies, a lack of political representation, and growing demands for rights. The challenge for the British was not just to deal with this anger, but also to prevent it from turning into a bigger movement against their rule......this is where the Safety Valve Theory comes in- a political platform to give Indians a place to express their grievances, discuss their problems and put forward their demands.....the strategy was when people had an outlet to express their anger, the chances of that anger turning into a mass uprising might decrease. The idea was simple....let people vent their anger, give them a platform to raise their concerns, but make sure things never go so far that those in power feel threatened....sometimes, allowing people to speak is also a way of making sure that their anger doesn't go any further. 🔍💡

Bad..... The Safety Valve Theory reduces Indian nationalism to a British conspiracy and Indians to political puppets. It ignores Indian agency, the growing political consciousness, and genuine nationalist aspirations. A colonial theory of control is not proof of a colonial conspiracy. I don't understand why everything needs a historic labels.... Let the things be as it is..... Sab kuch pehle bar hi hota hai 🇮🇳

@aman143 I cited the intentions behind the theory....what happened later was completely different.

The INC’s formation in 1885 cannot be reduced to a British conspiracy to contain nationalism; Indian leaders had their own political ambitions. Resulting INC made government.
