UPSC mains: Gandhi kindness quote answer still scores only average
This answer is good. It will still score average. Gandhi's quote: simple acts of kindness over a thousand heads bowing in prayer. The student argued both sides, gave examples, took a stand. Written better than most. So why average? The quote was never opened. Gandhi is claiming that prayer costs nothing and action costs something. That claim appears nowhere in the answer. Once it is missing, the rest drifts. Grain to Pakistan, Gandhi in the riot areas, the Kedarnath DM. All correct, one line each, none carried anywhere. Information is what you know. Knowledge is arranging it. Wisdom is knowing what the moment demands. UPSC pays exceptionally only for the third. The habit that fixes it: before writing, put the quote in your own words in one sentence. Then make every paragraph serve it. One step from a high mark. Not ten.
