Indian economy: 11% wholesale inflation on food before Durga Puja and Diwali
A 7% GDP growth rate is fine, but 11% wholesale inflation is not. The most shocking part is inflation in food items. - Staples like rice, pulses, and wheat. - Vegetables like onions, ginger and garlic. The festive season, like Durga Puja and Diwali, is around the corner, and this is not the right sign for the economy. It will be an expensive festival season for rural households as well as urban households. Why suddenly so much of a surge in inflation? - Weak rainfall due to El Nino. - Expensive imports of oil and fertilisers. What is the next resort? What governments do in these cases?
