ECI orders Special Summary Revision of rolls in 17 states and UTs
New Delhi — The Election Commission of India has directed a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in 17 states and Union Territories, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan. The exercise aims to update voter lists. New names will be added, and errors in existing voter records will be corrected. Young people who turn 18 in 2027 will also be able to apply for inclusion in the electoral rolls. The order comes amid controversy and protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Around 13 crore names have reportedly been removed from voter lists during the SIR exercise. The schedule for the SSR in states where the SIR is currently underway will be announced later.
