For CSE Prelims 2027, these are the Tier-1 gems I’d actually retain from the India–Nepal discussion: 1950 India–Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship is the core framework behind their unusually close movement/residence relationship. India–Nepal has an open-border arrangement: ordinary movement is far more liberal than with most other Indian neighbours. Open border ≠ common citizenship. Nepali citizens in India remain foreign nationals; they do not automatically get Indian voting or citizenship rights. A Nepali national ordinarily does not need an Indian employment visa merely to work in India under the special bilateral framework. There is no general “return to Nepal every 6 months” requirement comparable to an ordinary tourist-visa regime. Treaty privileges are reciprocal in principle: movement, residence, economic activity and related privileges are extended on a special basis to nationals of both countries.
